CHILDREN’S DAY: KOGI NAWOJ CALLS FOR BETTER WELFARE, PROTECTION OF NIGERIAN CHILDREN

As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to mark the 2025 Children’s Day celebration, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), has called on government at all levels, stakeholders, and parents to prioritize the welfare, education, and protection of Nigerian children.

This call was made in a statement signed by the Chairperson of NAWOJ,Kogi State Chapter Comrade Edoka Stella Laruba, to commemorate this year’s Children’s Day.

According to the statement, Children’s Day is not just a date on the calendar, but a moment of reflection on the rights, welfare, and safety of the nation’s future leaders.

Comrade Edoka emphasized the need for deliberate and collective efforts to address issues such as child abuse, child labor, out-of-school children, and all forms of violence against minors.

She said:
“As we celebrate our precious children today, it is imperative for us as a society to reaffirm our commitment to providing them with a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where they can grow, learn, and thrive without fear or discrimination. Every child deserves access to quality education, healthcare, and the freedom to dream and pursue their aspirations.”

The NAWOJ Chairperson also used the occasion to call on parents and guardians to instill values of discipline, empathy, and hard work in their wards while urging the government to implement policies that guarantee children’s rights and wellbeing.

She further appealed to media professionals to continue using their platforms to advocate for children’s rights and bring attention to issues affecting young people in the country.

“The future of our nation lies in the hands of these young ones. It is our collective responsibility to nurture, protect, and empower them. NAWOJ remains committed to championing causes that promote the welfare and rights of Nigerian children,” she added.

Comrade Edoka congratulated all Nigerian children on the occasion of this year’s celebration, encouraging them to remain hopeful, courageous, and focused on their dreams.
