President Bola Tinubu Makes 30 Appointments

Tinubu Announces New Appointments to Regional Development Commissions President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has submitted a revised list of nominees for the inaugural Governing Board of the North West Development Commission (NWDC) to the Senate for confirmation. Additionally, he has nominated Hon. Emeka Atuma as Chairman of the South East Development Commission (SEDC).

In the updated list sent to the Senate in late September 2024, Ambassador Haruna Ginsau, initially nominated as NWDC Chairman, has been replaced by Alhaji Lawal Samai’la Abdullahi. Ja’afar Abubakar Sadeeq and Yahaya Aminu Abdulhadi have also been added as new members. Professor Abdullahi Shehu Ma’aji retains his position as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. The previous NWDC board nominees included Dr. Yahaya Umar Namahe, Yahaya Aminu Abdulhadi, Engr. Muhammad Ali Wudil, Shamsu Sule, Nasidi Ali, and Aminu Suleiman.

Following the Senate’s adjustment of the NWDC Act to include representation from all geo-political zones, President Tinubu complied with a new list of representatives for each zone: South East: Chukwu Chijioke North East: Ahmed Mohammed North West: Engr. Ahmed Rufai Timasaniyu South-South: Macdonalds Michael Uyi South West: Yemi Ola North Central: Hon. Babatunde Dada For the South East Development Commission (SEDC), Hon. Emeka Atuma has been appointed as Chairman, with Hon. Mark C. Okoye named Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer. Their appointments are subject to Senate confirmation.

Other members of the SEDC board include Barr. Ugochukwu H. Agballah, Hon. Okey Ezenwa, Chief Hyacinth Ikpor, Hon. Donatus Eyinnah Nwankpa, Barr. Ifeanyi Agwu, Nasiru Usman, and Hamma Adama Ali Kumo.

Additional appointees to the commission include Edward David Onoja, Orure Kufre Inima, and Chief (Mrs.) Joke Adebayo-Chukwuma. Key executive roles were also filled with Prince Obinna Obiekweihe as Executive Director (Projects), Senator Anthony O. Agbo as Executive Director (Finance and Administration), and Dr. Daniel Ikechukwu Ugwuja as Executive Director (Corporate Services).
