RE: CLARIFICATION ON REPORTED INCIDENT ALONG KABBA–OKENE ROAD

Please, this is to clarify the reports being circulated on social media regarding an alleged armed bandit attack on an 18-seater commercial bus along the Kabba–Okene Road.

At about 2100hrs on 17th June 2026, a commercial bus driven by one Ojo, an indigene of Kabba, was en route to Ibilo fully loaded with cocoyam. According to the driver, he observed unusual lights ahead of the road and, while attempting to make a U-turn, noticed some individuals moving towards his direction. In response, he abandoned the vehicle and ran to a nearby military checkpoint along the highway for safety.

It is important to state clearly that no passenger was kidnapped or harmed, as there were no passengers on board at the time of the incident. The situation has been confirmed to be non-criminal in nature, as the vehicle reportedly developed an electrical fault which contributed to the circumstances encountered.

The goods were subsequently transferred to another vehicle and conveyed to their destination without further incident. The matter was managed at the military checkpoint, and the Police were not formally informed, reportedly because no kidnapping or casualty situation occurred.

For the avoidance of doubt, the circulating claims of an armed bandit attack and abduction of passengers are misleading and not accurate.

Please treat this as clarification for your information.
