Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has immortalized former Governor of the state, late Ibrahim Idris, by renaming the Kogi State Specialist Hospital, Lokoja after him.
The hospital will henceforth be known as Ibrahim Idris Specialist Hospital, Lokoja.
Governor Ododo announced this at the 40th-day Fidau prayer held in honour of the late former Governor, popularly known as Baba Ibro.
Speaking at the prayer session, Governor Ododo described the death of Idris as a huge loss to Kogi State, noting that the state has lost a legend, a detribalized leader, astute businessman and one of the most consequential figures in its political history.
“Baba Ibro understood that leadership is measured by the lives we touch and the opportunities we create for others. He built businesses, nurtured relationships, strengthened institutions and opened doors for many Kogites and Nigerians,” the Governor said.
Ododo said even in death, the late Ibrahim Idris has continued to unite people, pointing to the large turnout of personalities from different political backgrounds, ethnic groups and religious persuasions at the prayer as a testament to the bridge-building life he lived.
The Governor, on behalf of the government and people of Kogi State, extended condolences to the immediate family, the people of Omala Local Government Area, the Igala Kingdom and all Kogites whose lives were touched by the late leader.
He charged the family of the deceased to preserve the values, good name and legacy left behind by their patriarch, stressing that sustaining a legacy demands commitment, sacrifice and unity.
According to Ododo, the state government has a responsibility to preserve the memory of those who shaped the state, adding that history would not forgive the state if the name and contributions of Baba Ibro were allowed to fade.
“Therefore, as the Chief Servant of Kogi State, I am pleased to announce that the Kogi State Specialist Hospital in Lokoja will henceforth be renamed Ibrahim Idris Specialist Hospital, Lokoja, in honour of this distinguished former Governor and in recognition of his contributions to the development of our dear state,” Ododo announced.
He said the gesture was to ensure that the name of the late former governor remains associated with service, development and the well-being of the people, so that future generations will be reminded of his role in shaping Kogi State’s history.
The Governor prayed Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings, accept his good deeds and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.
