Kogi LG Elections Peaceful, Transparent – Ododo Hails Tinubu After Casting Vote
Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, has hailed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for providing the security backbone that enabled the peaceful conduct of Saturday’s Local Government elections across the state.
Governor Ododo spoke shortly after casting his vote at his polling unit in Upogoro, Okene Local Government Area.
The Governor said the atmosphere across the state was festive and peaceful — a sharp contrast to the violence and bloodshed that used to characterize Local Government elections in the past.
According to him, the peaceful exercise is proof that security is key to deepening democracy.
“In the past, Local Government elections used to be bloody. But we thank Mr President for giving us that confidence and supporting us to provide security for our people. You can see that Local Government elections are now just like a carnival,” Ododo said.
He expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the election by officials and the massive turnout of voters without fear.
Ododo noted that the relative peace being enjoyed in Kogi State is a result of deliberate and sustained efforts by his administration with the support of the Federal Government to confront criminal elements.
He urged Nigerians to appreciate the sacrifices and resources needed to sustain security, saying the confidence with which people now move around the state is crucial for economic activities and democratic participation.
The Governor said his administration will not be distracted by social media controversies, stressing that his focus remains on good governance and protecting lives and property.
He described the election as peaceful, free and transparent, and said opposition is welcome in a democracy but must come with constructive ideas and a track record of service.
He challenged opposition parties to show what they have done for the development of the state and the welfare of the people.
The Governor expressed confidence in the All Progressives Congress (APC) and thanked President Tinubu for his continued support for Kogi State’s security and development agenda.
He said after voting, he left the rest of the process to electoral officials and called on all stakeholders to maintain the peaceful atmosphere until the end of the exercise.
