Kogi Fomwan held 16th days activism against gender based violence, Calls for Unity and Investment to End Gender‑Based Violence*

The Kogi State Amirah of the Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN), Hajia Falilat Abdulrazak, called for unity and investment to end gender based violence and she stressed that there is need to raise voices where silence once lived.

According to her, there’s need to offer hope where despair once dominated. Let us be reminded again that Islam teaches justice, compassion and the protection of the weak. These values must guide our collective response.

She made this known at 16 Days of Activism Against Gender‑Based Violence, organized by FOMWAN, Kogi State Chapter, at FOMWAN Group of School, Adankolo, Lokoja, the state capital

She noted that the programme is a reminder – an urgent call that our society must no longer ignore the silent wounds, broken homes and shattered confidence.

She said this year’s global theme, “Unite to Invest to Prevent Violence Against Women and Children,” gives us a clear direction to move beyond awareness toward meaningful, sustained investment in systems that protect and empower.

She further said that the theme calls for investment not only of money, but also of policy, infrastructure, political will, community engagement and accountability.

She expressed hope that the appeal will resonate across government ministries, security agencies, religious leaders and traditional rulers.

She stated the need for a well‑funded, fully equipped survivors’ shelter and specialist juvenile homes for minors affected by violence.

Speaking earlier, Kongonet chairman Mallam Hamza Aliyu promised Ngos collaboration and their support with the Fomwan whenever the need arises.

He also pledged to move the issue of gender‑based violence forward.

The Kogi State Chairperson of the Africa Women Lawyers Association, Barrister Joy Akinola (AWLA), urged mothers to always train their children to be financially independent and to pursue their dreams.

Mrs. Rabi Jibo, the FOMWAN focal person, gave a synopsis of the 16 Days of Activism on Gender‑Based Violence and urged members to stay involved until the end.

A representative of the National Human Rights Commission, Mallam Musa Yusuf, advised the public to always come forward, as the commission is always ready to support

Police Gender Desk officer ASP Blessing Simon charged mothers and guardians to avoid sending their wards on errands after 6 p.m. to prevent attacks on children.

This yeas theme is unite to end digital violence against women and girls
