Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo has called for stronger collaboration between governments and road safety stakeholders to reduce road crashes and save lives across Nigeria.
Governor Ododo made the call on Tuesday in Lokoja during the presentation of 10 electric patrol motorcycles to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). The donation was made when he received the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed at the Government House shortly after his investiture as Grand Patron of the Special Marshals of the FRSC
The Governor said Kogi’s position as the gateway between Northern and Southern Nigeria puts enormous pressure on its roads, making traffic management and safety interventions critical to national socio-economic activities.
In a major move, Governor Ododo also announced the elevation of the Senior Special Assistant on Road Safety Matters, Yusuf Suberu to Special Adviser in recognition of his contributions to road safety administration in the state.
Presenting the electric patrol bikes, Ododo said the equipment would boost the FRSC’s operational capacity and improve emergency response and highway patrols. He assured the Corps Marshal that other requests presented by the FRSC would receive “favourable consideration.”
The Governor dedicated his investiture as Grand Patron to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu describing it as a reflection of the President’s commitment to safer roads and the protection of Nigerian lives.
Earlier, the Corps Marshal urged the Kogi State Government to revive motor parks across the state to improve traffic flow. Governor Ododo informed him that the initiative is already underway and nearing completion.
Commending the donation, Mohammed said the electric motorcycles would significantly enhance the Corps’ operations not only in Kogi but across the country.
