The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kogi State has arrested and paraded a suspect in connection with transformer vandalism in the state.
The suspect, identified as 34-year-old Aminu Abdullahi, was apprehended around 3:00 a.m. on September 17, 2025, along Kaba-Kanu Road in Kabba-Bunnu Local Government Area. Abdullahi, who confessed to the crime, also implicated an accomplice, identified as Mr. Smart, who is currently on the run.
Kogi State Commandant of the NSCDC, CC Aletan Olumide Ebenezer, said the arrest followed credible intelligence and swift action by operatives with the assistance of community youths.
He warned that the Corps would show zero tolerance for the destruction of critical national infrastructure.
“We will not tolerate the destruction of critical national infrastructure. Despite government efforts, some individuals are bent on sabotaging progress. The law will catch up with them,” he declared.
The Commandant also called on traditional rulers, community leaders, and residents to continue collaborating with security agencies, stressing that community engagement had already yielded positive results.
Incidents of transformer vandalism have been on the rise in Kogi State. In the last year alone, several suspects were arrested across Ankpa, Yagba East, and Lokoja, while a 150MVA transformer at Obajana substation was severely damaged by armed men.
The cost of replacing vandalized transformers runs into hundreds of millions of naira, with communities left in prolonged darkness.
