- INEC DECLARES ADELEKE WINNER OF 2026 OSUN STATE GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially declared Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party as the winner of the 2026 Osun State governorship election. The declaration was made in the early hours of today by the INEC Returning Officer, Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, who is also the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, at the INEC State Headquarters in Osogbo, the state capital.
According to the final results announced by the electoral umpire, Governor Adeleke secured a total of 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 444,815 votes. The victory margin stands at 66,252 votes. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished a distant third with 17,180 votes. A total of 15 political parties participated in the keenly contested election.
Governor Adeleke’s victory was decisive as he won in 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while his main rival, Oyebamiji, secured 11. The election, which was held on Saturday, August 15, witnessed a significant voter turnout across the 3,763 polling units in the state. The total valid votes cast were 985,079, while 20,721 votes were rejected. A total of 1,005,800 votes were cast during the election.
The declaration sparked wild jubilation among supporters of the Accord Party across Osogbo and other parts of the state, celebrating the governor’s return to the Bola Ige House for a second term in office. Governor Adeleke, who initially won his first term in 2022 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), contested this election on the platform of the Accord Party after defecting from the PDP in December. His campaign focused on welfare and infrastructural consolidation.
The 2026 governorship election is now officially concluded, confirming Governor Ademola Adeleke’s mandate to continue leading Osun State for another four-year term.
